The Project

The VOTER Girl Project® was developed by the Kent LWV and shared with our Muncie/ Delaware County league to teach scouts at all levels—from Daisies to Ambassadors—about citizenship, voting and leadership with the goal of earning their Citizenship Badge.

The content of the curriculum is based on voting, public policy and advocacy. Issues explored in the workshops include how government works, civic responsibility, finding common ground and civic dialogue.

Class Topics

Each scout level focuses on a different topic related to citizenship. Daisies learn about being a good neighbor in their community and school, while Brownies celebrate community.

Juniors examine government at the local, state and national levels. Cadettes learn about ways to find common ground among people with diverse viewpoints on issues that affect their lives.

Seniors go behind the ballot to see how the voting process works. Ambassadors discuss issues related to public policy.

Class Format

All classes include instructor presentations, discussion time and hands-on activities designed to meet the Girl Scouts of America’s specified learning objectives.

Projects and activities are not graded.

The classes are intended to be a fun way for girls of all ages to learn about citizenship and how being a good citizen impacts their lives and the lives of others.

Class sessions are 2 1/2 hours each for Daisies through Cadettes.

These issues are in keeping with the mission of the League of Women Voters of the United States: to encourage an informed citizenry that actively participates in government by providing nonpartisan voter registration opportunities and sponsoring activities which enable communities to engage with candidates and hear about issues that affect community life.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization focused on encouraging the informed and active participation of citizens in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League was founded in 1920 after passage of the 19th Amendment confirming women’s right to vote in the United States.
