About this event
This year, bail is on the ballot. The Indiana General Assembly has advanced Public Question 1 (SJR 1), a constitutional amendment that would significantly narrow the right to bail. Supporters frame it as a public-safety measure, but if adopted, judges could deny bail to anyone they deem a threat — replacing constitutional protection with broad discretion.
That shift could sweep in low-level offenders, people with substance-use disorders, women facing pregnancy-related criminalization, and even peaceful protestors. More Hoosiers jailed pre-trial means more families disrupted and more neighbors held without a path home.
A statewide coalition is now organizing to help voters understand the stakes and say no to Public Question 1.
Join the public Zoom briefing on June 30 at 6:30 p.m. to learn how communities from Gary to New Albany can work together to protect constitutional rights and keep Indiana’s justice system fair.
