About this event
School board elections in Indiana are getting a major overhaul this year, and voters, families, and educators need to know what’s coming. Join Chalkbeat Indiana on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m. for a fast, clear briefing on what these changes mean for your community.
For example, candidates have a new option to declare on the ballot whether they are Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. Or they can choose to be nonpartisan, as they have in the past. Also, the rules around schools asking voters for additional property tax funds have changed, at a time when schools are already receiving less funding from property taxes overall.
Hosted at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, 450 W Ohio St, Indianapolis, the event features a panel moderated by Chalkbeat reporter Aleksandra Appleton, with insights from:
• David Roof — Center for Economic and Civic Learning, Ball State University
• Terry Spradlin — Indiana School Boards Association
• Ashley Thomas — I.P.S. Schools Board & Indianapolis Public Education Corporation
The event is free, presented with the Indiana Historical Society. Doors open at 6 p.m. Food and childcare provided.
